The Kokoris package

February 10th, 2008 | by Paul |

This is more of an update. Please read the posting below for the main bit of today’s news. It’s got a picture of Michael Jackson in it.

As is my Sunday wont, I settled down with the Chicago Tribune for the comics, the crossword and as much news as I can read before I get depressed. Then I read this column by Jim Kokoris. It made me laugh and almost spill my third gallon of coffee. It’s a humorous take on the economic stimulus package Congress is considering to stave off inflation.

I know, I know, what well-worn material for comedy. It’s like wives spending money or men liking to golf. It’s been trite since that “I Love Lucy” where Ricky consults economists about pushing a $168 billion package but Lucy just wants to meet Harpo Marx. Kokoris makes it work, though.

Funny thing, I never thought about it, but the whole package - as Kokoris points out - is based on the notion that if Americans get more money, they’ll spend it. Even the government doesn’t think Americans have it in them to save.

Also, check out www.sleepywhisper.com. The site’s main guy found my site, then I looked at his. It’s awesome. Check it out.
